Ms Tracy HU

Aesthetic Legitimacy in Film and Videogames
With Prof. Jonathan FROME (July 2018 - May 2019)

"Neither film nor videogames were originally considered an art form when they first began to entertain audiences, but film is now seen as an art form by all, and videogames are increasingly recognized as an art form that is worthy of study. Tracy Hu worked on a project to analyze film and videogame reviews to understand how these art forms have gained aesthetic legitimacy over time. She identified sources for these reviews, collected and organized them in a database, helped develop a coding scheme to understand their content, and used a tagging system as part of a systematic content analysis. In doing this she developed a broad range of skills that can be used in many types of academic and administrative projects."
