International Conference of Developing Marketing Knowledge in Emerging China: Multi-Disciplinary Approaches

Annual Conference of China Marketing Science (CMS) is an international conference initiated and supported by the Journal of Marketing Science. We have seen a rapid development of marketing research in China since its first conference in 2004.  In 2011 we will have the 8th annual conference to advance further interdisciplinary marketing research with other areas such as psychology, sociology, economics, statistics, etc. As a result of this interdisciplinary focus, the 8th annual conference of CMS will be honorably hosted by Journal of Marketing Science Editorial Board, jointly hosted by School of Business at Sun Yat-sen University and Faculty of Business at Lingnan University, and co-organised by Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Macau, Department of Psychology at Sun Yat-sen University, and Department of Marketing at Nanyang Technological University, to be held at Guangzhou, China from Friday, August 19 through Monday, August 22, 2011.

The theme of 2011s conference is to encourage interdisciplinary research and develop marketing knowledge in China, one of the most important emerging markets in the world. We encourage domestic and oversea scholars from areas such as marketing, psychology, sociology, management, economics, and statistics to submit papers that study marketing issues from various perspectives. We believe that exchange of ideas through presentations and discussions in the conference with such a diverse group of researchers will be highly thought-provoking. Future development of marketing research in China will be greatly benefited from the integration of multiple disciplines in many different ways (e.g. theories, methodologies, and paradigms).

We sincerely welcome colleagues from colleges, universities, and organizations to participate and submit papers to this conference. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be invited to present at the conference and recommended to publish in the Journal of Marketing Science.

Meanwhile, we will host the Doctoral Consortium on August 19, 2011. The consortium is to help young researchers succeed in their academic career by fostering research interests, strengthening research skills, and encouraging research talks with doctoral students from schools in China and abroad.

Welcome to join us at the 2011 CMS conference!

General Information

China's impressive economic growth over the past thirty years has recently elevated China to the second largest economy in the world. This economic success has relied on the central government's well-planned policy and a market oriented system. The theme of this year's conference is "Developing Marketing Knowledge in Emerging China: Multi-Disciplinary Approaches". This theme emphasizes the need for educators, business leaders and research scholars to recognize, appreciate and understand the significance of marketing knowledge in emerging economies like China. The 2011 Annual Conference of China Marketing Science offers outstanding opportunities for business leaders and academics to share their insights and experiences concerning various marketing issues and research findings from different nations. Scholars and business practitioners from all cultures and parts of the world are welcomed to participate and discuss important topics which affect the business environment in China or other countries. As we believe that exchange of ideas through presentations and discussions with a diverse group of people will be highly thought-provoking, scholars from areas other than marketing such as psychology, sociology, management, economics and statistics are also welcomed to submit papers. Through the conference, we hope the participants can learn more about the contemporary business environment in China, the changes in Chinese consumer behavior, the formation of global consumer culture, domestic and global brand issues, social entrepreneurship in China, and so on.
