Abstract
Physical theatre is not a particular genre of the theatre e.g. tragedy or comedy, nor it is equivalent to pantomime. Physical theatre is about the expression of the body.  Everyone has a physical body and physical expression has always been existing in different genres and styles of performing arts. As such, one can say that physical theatre is a process of training and creation with the physical body as the basis of expression. It inspires the creation of any form of theatre works. This is also the reason why physical theatre changes the creative process of the theatre.  It sets theatre artists free from the restriction of verbal language, and stimulates their creative thinking. Physical theatre plays a pivotal role in the contemporary development of theatre. It enriches the power of expression of traditional theatre, and gives birth to various forms of avant-garde theatre. Physical theatre is definitely a viable path if Hong Kong theatre aspires to go onto the international stage.
