The University organised the Briefing Session for Projects in Celebration of the 100th Birthday of Dr Tin Ka Ping on 4 April 2018 to give an introduction on the two funded projects, namely the “Lingnan Student Voluntary Tutoring Scheme: Online Tutoring for Rural Students in China” and “Lingnan High-Flyers Programme”.  Mr Sam Tin Hing-sin, Chairman of the Board, Prof Kenneth Young, Director and Mr Oscar Lau, Advisory Board Member of Tin Ka Ping Foundation attended the briefing session.

The Lingnan Student Voluntary Tutoring Scheme: Online Tutoring for Rural Students in China, led by Prof Wei Xiangdong, Professor of the Department of Economics and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Lingnan University, aims to promote quality education in rural China.  The project rides on the ongoing development and popularisation of Internet technology to build online classrooms, thus allows Lingnan students to participate in providing teaching and education support for children in villages of the Mainland, and contribute to the enhancement of the quality of education in rural China.

The Lingnan High-Flyers Programme, organised by the Student Services Centre, is established for outstanding Lingnan students with leadership potential.  Through a series of professional training and practical opportunities, it cultivates students’ entrepreneurial attributes including creativity, courage to take risk, outstanding abilities in planning and problem-solving, insightful mind and the charm as a leader, who are willing to give back to the University and the community with what they learned.

The Tin Ka Ping Foundation, founded by Dr Tin Ka Ping in 1982, has been a staunch supporter of Lingnan University. The Foundation donated to support the University's development; established the Lingnan University Tin Ka Ping Student Loan Scheme to ease students' financial difficulties; and set up the Tin Ka Ping Education Fund to support an annual exchange programme with Mainland scholars and senior administrators to promote Lingnan's distinguished liberal arts education. Earlier in December 2017, the Foundation sponsorsed the Principal Forum in the Greater China Region with the theme “Promoting Global Citizens and Liberal Arts Education” organised by Lingnan University. The event gathered about 180 international higher education experts and principals and education professionals to discuss on how to nurture global citizens through liberal arts education.
