Conference on "The Future Development of Insurance Industry in Hong Kong"
Lingnan University and AR Charitable Foundation co-organised “The Future Development of Insurance Industry in Hong Kong” Conference on 10 September 2018 (Monday) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre with the Honourable Paul CHAN Mo-Po, GBM, GBS, MH, JP, Financial Secretary of the Government of the HKSAR as the officiating guest. With more than 600 participants from the insurance industry and education institutions, the Conference is one of the major celebratory events of the 50th Anniversary of Lingnan University’s re-establishment in Hong Kong, aiming to explore the challenges and opportunities facing by the Hong Kong insurance industry.
The Conference aimed at providing a platform for government bodies, regulators, industry professionals and scholars to discuss and share ideas on the regulatory, professional practice and training issues related to the insurance industry, as well as providing an opportunity for industry members to express their views on the industry's development and government and relevant authorities to respond to these opportunities and challenges in terms of policy and administrative support. It is hoped that the Conference would promote collaboration between different industry players and stakeholders for the future development of Hong Kong's insurance industry.
The panel discussions entitled “Future development of the insurance industry and talent supply” were moderated by The Hon Bernard Charnwut Chan, GBS, JP, Convenor of the Non-official members of the Executive Council of HKSAR. The first session featured industry leaders and academics, such as Mr Harry K T Wong, Director and General Manager of Hong Leong Insurance (Asia) Limited; Mr Derek Yung, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Hong Kong Limited; Mr Paul Young, Chief Executive Officer of Aon Hong Kong Limited; Mr Neil Shen, Founding and Managing Partner of Sequoia China and Prof Jiang Cheng, Associate Professor of the Department of Finance and Insurance of Lingnan University, while the second session brought together officials from the government and regulatory and statutory bodies, including The Hon James Henry Lau, JP, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury; Mr Clement Cheung, GBS, JP, Chief Executive Officer of Insurance Authority; Mr Laurence Li Lu-jen, JP, Chairman of Financial Services Development Council and Mr Carlson Tong, SBS, JP, Chairman of University Grants Committee.
