Lingnan University Receives Generous Donations of HK$20 million from Dr Wong Hoo Chuen and Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation in Support of the Construction of Student Hostels

Lingnan University receives generous donations of HK$20 million from Dr Wong Hoo Chuen and the Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation in support of the construction of new student hostels at the University. The hostels will be named according to the wish of them respectively.

Sharing the vision of the University in liberal arts education, Dr Wong and Governor of the Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation, Dr Patrick Wu Po Kong, JP hope their initiatives of making the donations could enrich hostel life on campus and assist the University to attain 100% residential rate by 2012 under 3+3+4 academic reform. Besides, they also wish to encourage more generous support from alumni, philanthropists and the society that could motivate the whole-person development of Lingnanians.

Campus life, especially hostel life, is regarded as an essential part of liberal arts education. Currently, 65% of the University’s undergraduates live on campus. The new student hostels donated by Dr Wong and Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation will offer additional 600 places and be completed by 2011. The University is also planning to build another 400-place student hostel on the campus in order to reach 100% full residence by 2012.
