Programme Highlights
The Master of Liberal Sciences (MLS) programme is a great demonstration of Lingnan University's exemplification on the institution’s long-standing commitment to liberal arts education while adapting to contemporary education market demands.
The term "liberal sciences" is a combination of "liberal arts" and "sciences”, referring to fields of study that encompass a broad range of disciplines within the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and formal sciences. The liberal arts traditionally include subjects such as literature, philosophy, history, and the arts, emphasising critical thinking, communication skills, and a broad-based education. "Liberal sciences" refers to an interdisciplinary educational approach that combines elements of both liberal arts and scientific disciplines, integrating both scientific knowledge and the analytical and reflective skills associated with the liberal arts, aiming to provide a comprehensive and holistic education.
In recent years, with the advancement of social productivity and the continuous improvement of living standards, public interest has shifted from solely focusing on productivity improvement and technological progress to broader areas including personal wellness, mental health and entertainment. This shift has led to the rapid growth of industries related to sports and training, music and short video production, leisure and travel, beauty and design. The prosperous of these industries has significantly driven the development of research and education in related fields.
Against this backdrop, the Wu Jieh Yee School of Interdisciplinary Studies (WJYSIS) of Lingnan University has recognized the increasing need for master's-level professionals in fields like sports, music, media, arts, and other relevant areas.
In response to this growing demand and with the goal of equipping students with interdisciplinary knowledge and skills that bridge the gap between traditional disciplines and emerging trends in the workforce, Lingnan University is dedicated to offering the Master of Liberal Sciences (MLS) programme. The aim of the programme is to fully utilise Lingnan University's unique resources in sports, music, media and arts education thereby contributing to the diversified development of the university.
