President's Message
The years preceding 2012 are full of challenges and excitement, with preparation for the 3-3-4 reform gathering momentum. The new core curriculum is under refinement, while new campus facilities and upgraded infrastructure are gradually in place to ensure that we will continue to excel as a liberal arts university in the years to come.
Under the new 3-3-4 system, Lingnan will strengthen its liberal arts characteristics by providing a broad-based curriculum and vibrant learning environment for students. The four-year curriculum will be enriched by substantially increasing credits in our new "core curriculum" and language proficiency courses. More emphasis will be placed on critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills.
Lingnan maximizes students' out-of-classroom learning experience to ensure that education becomes a truly daily activity. With about 80 exchange partners all over the world, our students continue to benefit from the invaluable exchange experience. By 2012, we expect to send half of our students to participate in exchange programmes. At the same time, we welcome the cultural diversity brought by incoming students from different countries worldwide.
The social experience emphasized in liberal arts education also fosters whole-person development through hostel life and participation in community service. Lingnan is on track to provide hostel accommodation to all undergraduate students during their entire period of study by 2012/13. To fulfill the University’s motto "Education for Service", our students participate actively in community service which benefits the disadvantaged and young people in need of support. They also demonstrate ability to apply their knowledge to help tackle social problems through participating in service-learning programmes. These experiences enable students to develop their sense of civic responsibility, self-confidence and leadership skills.
Our ultimate goal is to provide an education which maximizes the full potential of each and every one of our students. I am confident that the distinctive learning experience at Lingnan will invigorate the minds of our students and prepare them well for whatever endeavours they decide to pursue in life and in career.lt;br />lt;/p>
