Naming Ceremonies at Lingnan Mark Donations from Two Council and Court Members

24 Apr 2006

Lingnan University ("Lingnan" or "the University") held today two naming ceremonies to mark the generous donations from two University Council and Court members, Dr Stephen CHOW Chun-kay, BBS, JP and Mr Peter WONG Pak-heung. The donations have been earmarked for the University's continued development.

In appreciation of the donors' support and contributions to the University all along, the lecture room located on the first floor of the B.Y. Lam Building is named after Dr Stephen Chow Chun-kay, and the pavilion in the Contemporary Garden on campus is also named as "Pavilion After The Rain", in memory of Mr Wong's grandparents and parents.

Joining Dr Stephen Chow and Mr Peter Wong in officiating at the ceremonies was Prof Edward CHEN, President of the University. Prof Chen said the University was indebted to Dr Chow and Mr Wong for their liberal and whole-hearted support, as well as their involvement in the University Council and Court business, which together with the above mentioned donations would enable the University to take a step forward on the way to be an even better education provider.

The two donations were matched on a dollar-to-dollar basis under the Matching Grant Scheme by the University Grants Committee.

Dr Chow has been the University Council and Court member since 2003; Mr Wong is a Lingnan alumnus and first became a member of the Board of Governors of Lingnan College (the forerunner of Lingnan University) in 1992.
