New Railway Projects Youth Ambassadors Assemble! Empowering Youth Development with MTR Corporation

On 23 September 2023, a Welcome and Thank you Party was jointly organised by Lingnan University (LU) and MTR Corporation (MTR) for the New Railway Projects Youth Ambassadors Programme. The occasion marked the success of the collaboration and provided opportunity to current and newly recruited ambassadors sharing joyful moments and remarkable achievements of interactive roving talks and dynamic engagement activities organised by the ambassadors.

Since 2022, over 50 energetic youth ambassadors effectively bridged the gap between the new railway projects and the local communities via over 30 informative sharing sessions and STEAM workshops at community centres, kindergarten, primary and secondary schools. During the sessions, nearly 5,000 participants of ages 3 to 80 were briefed about the Tuen Mun South Extension and Tung Chung Line Extension projects features, railway construction knowledge and sustainable station designs.

During the party, Youth Ambassadors expressed that they felt empowered with strong sense of commitment. Not only did the programme enabled them a more holistic understanding of the new railway projects in Hong Kong, but it was also a valuable experience for them to enrich effective leadership, communication and presentation skills, as well as unleash creativity when organising educational events with different age groups.

Ms. Connie Hon, Chief Corporate Communications Manager – Capital Works of MTR Corporation, appreciated students’ dedication in promoting new railway projects and their benefits to various stakeholders, fostering understanding and harmonious relationships with the communities while MTR Corporation taking forward the railway projects to connect and build communities.

Professor Joshua Mok Ka-Ho, Vice President of LU, expressed his aspiration towards the Youth Ambassadors. He mentioned that MTR Corporation is renowned for its advanced railway system upholding high efficiency, safety, and comfort. LU is proud to be one of the key drivers in promoting the strength of the city’s commuting network.

Dr. Chloe Siu, Senior Lecturer of the School of Graduate Studies (GS) and Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) at LU, further highlighted the programme's success in recruiting over 50 talented and passionate Youth Ambassadors, showcasing an exemplary embodiment of the university's motto, Education for Service.

Forthcoming, the Youth Ambassadors Programme will continue to provide development opportunities to empower LU students, as the solid foundation of the ever-growing communities.
