The STEAM Education and Research Centre at Lingnan University (The STEAM Centre), Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers (HKFEW) and Hong Kong STEM Education Alliance (The Alliance) held the “STEM Education Project For the Youth” Junior Secondary Group Competition and Award Ceremony at the Polytechnic University on 27 November 2021. The competition is divided into two sections: "Robot Competition" and "Creative Robot", and with more than 100 students participating.

STEM Education Project for the Youth

Followed the national "14th Five-Year Plan", Hong Kong targets to become the region’s innovation and technology hub. Therefore, it is necessary to nurture a large number of science and technology talents. In recent years, the organizers of the activity have actively engaged in science and technology innovation education and training, hoping to make contributions in this field. The “STEM Education Project for the Youth” is one of the training courses.

The purpose of “STEM Education Project for the Youth” is to provide students with systematic robotics course training, so that the younger generation can grasp the great value of science and innovation knowledge, and thus our society can effectively cultivate students' scientific literacy, and nurture talents for the development of Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology centre. The project was financially supported by the Bank of China (Hong Kong).

The project started from October 2020, providing different training courses and competitions for high school, junior high school and high school students. At this stage, the training of the junior high school group has been completed, with a total of 900 students from 30 schools participating. The "Robot Competition" mainly allows students to compete with each other through hands-on design and production of improved robots. The process was very exciting. The "Creative Robot" is to let students design and design on the basis of biped robots. The eight-legged robot was produced, and after strict review by committee, the winners of each award were finally nominated.
