Avoiding Plagiarism
In order to enhance students’ understanding of plagiarism, all new undergraduate students starting from 2016-17 intake are required to complete this online tutorial by the end of their first year in Lingnan. Completion will be indicated by ticking the check-box at the end of the course. Students will be blocked from course registration for the coming academic year if they have not studied the materials by the end of the academic year.
All research postgraduate (RPg) and taught postgraduate (TPg) students admitted from the 2017-18 intake are required to complete this online tutorial; students from 2026-2027 intake are required to complete by the end of the first month of their studies in Lingnan. Completion will be indicated by ticking a check-box at the end of the course. If students fail to complete the requirement by the end of the first month of their studies, the Programme Office concerned may delete their courses registered in the second term.
The students will be blocked from the next course registration if they have not completed the ‘Online Tutorial on Plagiarism Awareness’. They can check their status on this requirement in Degree Works under the tab ‘Plagiarism Awareness’. (Only those students who are required to complete the course will have the tab shown.)
How to Access the Online Tutorial
The Online Tutorial on Plagiarism Awareness is an hour long and consists of videos and exercises. Students can access it at the Lingnan Portal or by clicking the link below:

All students are encouraged to study the materials and can retrieve the materials as many times as necessary.
Steps to complete the Online Tutorial on Plagiarism Awareness
The tutorial is divided into two parts with four steps, the first part of the quiz is for a student to understand what is plagiarism (steps 1 & 2). The tutorial allows multiple attempts, and only your most recent score will be recorded. Please note the tutorial result is for your reference only and has no consequence on your academic record.
The second and most important part is “Acknowledge Button”. You are also required to acknowledge that you understand the consequences of committing plagiarism by (step 3) ticking the box and (step 4) pressing the acknowledgement button at the end of the tutorial.
After completing the tutorial, UG students can check and verify requirement status in Degree Works under the tab ‘Plagiarism Awareness’.
