Lingnan University’s Christian Tradition

In 1888, Rev. Andrew P. Happer, a missionary of the Board of Foreign Missions, Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., established in Guangzhou a non-denominational Christian university—the Christian College in China—which later became Lingnan University.

Lingnanians have long exhorted themselves with this motto: “One Heart, One Mind, One Will; For God, for Country and for Lingnan.” Because Lingnanians have a cause to live for, we cherish the mission of the kingdom of heaven, practice the truth of the gospel, care for society, and humbly serve people. Because we share a common bond, we support one another and encourage each other, looking not only to our own interests but also to those of those around us, joining hands to form one Lingnan family.

 

Chaplain's Office

The Chaplain's Office provides pastoral care for students and staff, attends to the holistic well-being of the Lingnan community, and, together with Christian groups on campus, bears witness to the gospel of the kingdom.
