The Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office of the Faculty of Business has successfully held the third “Executive Speaker Forum” on 12 April 2024. We were honoured to have invited Mr. Cyrus Cheung, Partner of ESG Disclosure & Consulting at PwC Hong Kong, and Ms. Kimmy Yick to share the latest developments in ESG practices and introduce CPA Australia and its Professional Examinations.

Mr. Cheung began by delivering an overview of the latest developments in ESG practices from various perspectives. He provided a clear definition of ESG and an explanation of its impact on businesses. Mr. Cheung then turned the spotlight on Hong Kong, highlighting the city's active promotion of ESG practices as an international financial centre. He shared the exciting developments in ESG standards within Hong Kong, underscoring the establishment of guidelines and frameworks that facilitate the integration of ESG principles into corporate operations.

Following this, Ms. Kimmy Yick took the stage to introduce CPA Australia and its Professional Examinations, offering students valuable insights into their future career prospects. The professional qualifications offered by CPA Australia are recognized internationally. By acquiring these qualifications, students can enhance their professional standing and gain a competitive edge in the global job market.

As the public lecture drew to a close, Mr. Cheung and Ms. Yick shared an exciting job vacancy available at PwC, encouraging students to apply with enthusiasm.

In Environmental, Social and Governance Management (MScESGM) as well as other programmes seized this rare opportunity to ask their questions, including those related to industry practices and employment. Mr. Cheung, leveraging his expertise and experience, provided detailed advice to help students better understand and apply ESG practices.

After the public lecture, Mr. Cheung joined the students for a dinner. where he continued to share his personal experiences and encouraged students to explore various interests and career paths while continuously learning and improving their skills.

This public lecture provided valuable learning and networking opportunities, enabling students to establish connections within the industry and develop essential skills for their future careers.

Environmental, social and governance (ESG) have increasingly gained momentum in recent years in business and the investment community. It is a general consensus that non-financial ESG factors are equally as important as the financial factors of a firm, if not more. The key components of ESG, i.e., E, S, and G, separately have been rooted in sound theoretical backgrounds relating to economics, finance, accounting, and management, among others.  Meanwhile, the relatively new concept of ESG as an integrated concept suggests that its application in actual corporate operations is critical for its facilitation of business activities. Our speaker Mr Cyrus CHEUNG will be sharing with us the latest development of ESG practices, including the definition and its implications, how to be a successful ESG consultant and many more.
