Our Mission

Institute of Insurance and Risk Management (IIRM) aims to become a leading centre of excellence in research activities and talent trainings for the risk management and insurance industry in Hong Kong, China, and the Region. It will contribute to developing Hong Kong as a premier international insurance hub through its academic and practice-oriented research as well as other related activities such as hosting industry-oriented forums and conducting practice-oriented surveys. Specifically, our goals are to:

Contribute to Hong Kong’s development as a premier international insurance hub by liaising with the industry and regulators through joint efforts in upgrading best industry practices, attracting potential talents to the industry, and enhancing talents development and professionalism

Contribute to the development of risk and insurance industry in the Greater Bay Area as Shenzhen is the most economically-developed city in Mainland China

Facing the fast growing insurance market for high quality insurance services, the industry in Hong Kong at the current stage of its development comes across main challenges such as large manpower demand, advanced managerial and professional training, and in-depth industry analysis. To meet the above-mentioned needs of the industry for talents and industry dynamics to fully maximize its development potential Hong Kong’s higher education and executive programmes need to step forward, the University has decided to establish the Institute of Insurance and Risk Management in 2020.

 

The setting up of the Institute of Insurance and Risk Management would help fill these gaps by conducting research on key aspects of the insurance markets and providing additional professional consulting services in various specialized fields of risk management and insurance. Academic and professional lecture series and activities will be organized to increase the professionalism of insurance practitioners in liaison with industry regulators and local and international insurance organizations such as the Insurance Authority, Hong Kong Federation of Insurance and CBIRC in Mainland China. The Institute plans to promote inter-university, inter-faculty and cross research centre research collaborations. Leading universities and research institutes include Temple University, HEC Montreal, National Taiwan University, National Singapore University, INSEAD and University of Hawaii.
