Date | : | 9 January 2020 |
Dear Colleagues and Students,
Further to our email dated 3 January 2020, HSE Committee would like to update colleagues and students with the following:
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) made an amendment on Schedule 1 to the Prevention and Control of Disease Ordinance (Cap. 599) (“the Ordinance”) to include “Severe Respiratory Disease associated with a Novel Infectious Agent” (嚴重新型傳染性病原體呼吸系統病) which refers to the cluster of pneumonia cases with unknown aetiology occurring in Wuhan (武漢市) of the Mainland since December 2019. With effect from 8 January 2020, Severe Respiratory Disease associated with a Novel Infectious Agent is one of the statutorily notifiable diseases.
As the campus will soon be welcoming our staff and students for the second term, the Committee would like to encourage our University community to stay vigilant about this new severe respiratory disease, maintain good personal hygiene at all times and keep both hands clean. For students and staff who have travelled to Wuhan recently, please closely monitor your health condition. Should you have a fever or other symptoms, you should wear mask, refrain from work or attending class, minimize social contact, consult a doctor promptly and reveal your recent travel history if any.
In response to the recent development, the University has already implemented the following measures:
- Increased the frequency of cleaning of public facilities;
- Increased points of hand sanitizer (please refer to the map below);
- Provided thermometer available for body temperature check upon request at Security Counter of Hostel Blocks, Security Control Room on G/F Wong Administration Building and Campus Support Office on LG/F Indoor Sports Complex;
- Arranged re-stock of the appropriate amount of PPE such as masks. As the stock of surgical masks on campus is limited with tight supply in market, the University can only provide masks to those students and colleagues who are having fever and/or respiratory symptoms / travelled to endemic areas in past 14 days at the moment.
If you are being suspected or confirmed infected, please notify the Central Notification Office of the Centre for Health Protection at 2477-2772 and any of the following teams:
