NOTICE

Ref. : HSE0005/19-20
To : All Staff & Students
From : Prof Shang Weixin, Chairman, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Committee
Date : 12 February 2020

Dear Colleagues and Students,

HSE Committee would like to update colleagues and students with the following:

According to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP), with effect from 8 February, all people entering Hong Kong from the Mainland are required to undergo mandatory quarantine for 14 days upon their arrival, even if they have passed temperature checks and not developed any symptoms. Students and colleagues are strongly advised to comply with the above requirement, as contravening the quarantine requirement would be a criminal offence. For details, please refer to: https://www.info.gov.hk/gia/general/202002/07/P2020020700674.htm.

Students and colleagues who are returning from the Mainland are requested to complete an online declaration form before coming to campus.

For staff:

Students and staff are advised to go out less and reduce social activities, maintain appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible. If feeling unwell, you should wear a surgical mask and seek medical consultation promptly and inform the doctor of the travel history. It is advised to go to the nearest emergency room of any public hospital. The closest one to our campus is Tuen Mun Hospital.

In response to the latest development, the following measures are implementing on campus:

  • Increased frequency of cleaning of public facilities;
  • Increased points of hand sanitizer; 2 more hand sanitizers have been installed outside NABUG06 and G/F Wong Administration Building. For details, please refer to the map below;
  • Encourage students, staff and visitors to rub hands with hand sanitizer at each access point of campus;
  • Body temperature check at all pedestrian and vehicular entrances;
  • As the stock is limited and there is no guarantee on the delivery of our ordered quantity due to the shortage in the market, we can only provide masks to those students and colleagues who do not have masks after completing a simple health survey at the counter of hostel blocks and at access points upon entry to campus area.  Colleagues and students are strongly recommended to bring their own masks. For location of service points, please refer to the map below.

To prevent pneumonia and respiratory tract infection, colleagues and students should maintain at all times strict personal and environmental hygiene which is key to personal protection against infection and prevention of the spread of the disease in the community and stay alert on the following advice of CHP:

  • Wear a surgical mask when having respiratory symptoms, taking public transport or staying in crowded places. It is important to wear a mask properly, including hand hygiene before wearing and after removing a mask;
  • Perform hand hygiene frequently, especially before touching the mouth, nose or eyes; after touching public installations such as handrails or doorknobs; or when hands are contaminated by respiratory secretions after coughing or sneezing;
  • Maintain drainage pipes properly and regularly (about once a week) pour about half a liter of water into each drain outlet (U-traps) to ensure environmental hygiene;
  • After using the toilet, put the toilet lid down before flushing to avoid spreading germs;
  • \Wash hands with liquid soap and water, and rub for at least 20 seconds. Then rinse with water and dry with a disposable paper towel. If hand washing facilities are not available, or when hands are not visibly soiled, performing hand hygiene with 70 to 80 per cent alcohol-based handrub is an effective alternative;
  • Cover your mouth and nose with tissue paper when sneezing or coughing. Dispose of soiled tissues into a lidded rubbish bin, then wash hands thoroughly; and
  • When having respiratory symptoms, wear a surgical mask, refrain from work or attending class at school, avoid going to crowded places and seek medical advice promptly.
