Dear Colleagues and Students,

HSE Committee would like to update colleagues and students on the following:

In response to the drastic changes of the epidemic situation of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, the HKSAR Government will further tighten social distancing measures which will take effect at 0:00a.m. on 15 July 2020. For details of the regulation and the latest directions, please visit the press release of HKSAR at:

Below are some extracts of the latest measures:

  1. Catering Business
    • On catering business, the number of customers at any catering premises at any one time must not exceed 50% of the normal seating capacity of the premises. No more than 4 persons may be seated together at one table within any catering premises.
    • From 6:00p.m. to 4:59a.m. of the subsequent day, catering business could only sell or supply food and/or drink for takeaway services and deliveries.

  2. Group Gatherings
The number of persons allowed in group gatherings in public places will be tightened from 50 to 4 with effect from 15 July 2020.

  3. Wearing Mask when Using Public Transit
A person must wear a mask at all times when the person is boarding or on board a public transport carrier, or is entering or present in an MTR paid area for the period of 14 days from 0:00a.m. of 15 July to 28 July 2020.

The Committee strongly advises all stakeholders to maintain at all times strict personal and environmental hygiene, wear masks, reduce the frequency of visiting and time staying at common facilities, maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in daily lives and avoid meal gatherings or any other activities which cannot wear a mask. All stakeholders should also perform hand hygiene frequently, especially before touching the mouth, nose or eyes.

In order to minimize the risk of community transmission, the Committee strongly advises all stakeholders that if they have to undergo compulsory quarantine, please stay at home or place of residency for 14 days before coming back to the campus.

Students and colleagues should not come to the campus if their home-mates are undergoing self-quarantine. The same measure has been implemented for our outsourced contractors and guests.
