Dear Colleagues and Students,
Welcome back to campus! Wishing you a happy and healthy campus life in Term 2!
Following the latest developments of COVID-19 and winter influenza in Hong Kong, the Lingnan community is advised to maintain strict personal and environmental hygiene and to adopt the following preventive measures to lower risk of infection and spread of the disease in the community.
- Take note of the weather forecast. Wear warm clothing including hats, scarves, gloves and socks accordingly;
- The mandatory mask-wearing requirement under the Prevention and Control of Disease (Wearing of Mask) Regulation (Cap. 599I) still prevails.All members shall always wear masks on campus including indoor and outdoor areas. It is important to wear a mask properly, including hand hygiene before wearing and after removing a mask. All members shall note the followings when wearing a mask:
-
Choose an appropriate mask size to completely cover your nose, mouth and chin.
-
Attain good seal with the face by minimizing air leak from edges.
-
Masks with exhalation valve or vents should not be used because the exhaled air is unfiltered and puts surrounding people at risk if the wearer is infected with respiratory infectious diseases
-
- Maintain a balanced diet with enough vitamins and minerals;
- Perform regular physical activity to facilitate blood circulation and heat production;
- Perform hand hygiene properly. It is advised to clean hands with liquid soap and water when hands are visibly dirty or visibly soiled with blood and body fluid, after using the toilet. When hands are not visibly soiled, hand hygiene with 70–80% alcohol-based hand rub is an effective alternative;
- Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose;
- Cover your mouth and nose with tissue when sneezing or coughing. Dispose of soiled tissue into a lidded rubbish bin, and wash hands thoroughly afterwards;
- As lavatories are shared for use in hostel blocks and on campus, all users are reminded to be considerate and keep the facilities clean after use;
- Maintain adequate indoor ventilation; and
- Seek medical advice and conduct RAT / PCR test if feeling unwell.
A person who is simultaneously infected by influenza and COVID-19 may be more seriously ill and have a higher risk of death. Influenza vaccination may reduce the likelihood of hospitalisation and the length of stay. It is important to receive both seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations, in particular for those residing in hostels.
