Professor CHUA Mark Hansley Yang

Prof Mark Chua's research focuses on urban policy through the lens of institutional economics, utilizing Coasian theory and Elinor Ostrom’s Institutional Analysis and Development (IAD) framework. For instance, he is interested to examine how property rights and polycentric governance shape policy outcomes in heritage conservation, land use, and environmental management. A significant portion of his current work evaluates collective action in sustainable heritage projects and the institutional evolution of zoning and the built environment. By integrating empirical analysis with historical inquiry, he aims to provide evidence-based insights for resilient policy frameworks to address contemporary urban, environmental, and demographic challenges.
