LAW Ka Ki, Franklin | Since graduating from Lingnan's BBA in Marketing in 2007, I never imagined that nearly two decades later I would be leading marketing for one of Hong Kong's most iconic entertainment brands. Lingnan's close-knit community taught me strategic thinking, communication, and resilience — lessons that have quietly shaped every step of my career since.
After graduation, I spent years building experience across the Entertainment and TMT sectors, learning to lead digital strategy across earned, owned, and paid media. The most defining decision of my career came in 2022, at the height of Hong Kong's pandemic-driven tourism downturn, when I chose to join Ocean Park — betting on the city's eventual rebound, at a time when few would have called it safe. Today, as Marketing Director, I have the privilege of leading the Park's full marketing strategy, spanning branding, acquisition, loyalty, and e-commerce. I'm grateful that some of our work, including "The Panda-monium" celebrating Hong Kong's first giant panda twins and the partnerships it grew into, brought me the "Marketer of the Year" and "Distinguished Marketing Leadership Award" at the HKMA/ViuTV & Now TV Awards for Marketing Excellence 2025 — often known as Hong Kong's "Oscars of Marketing" — as Ocean Park collected six honours overall. It was truly a reflection of the whole team's effort, and I feel fortunate to have been the one to carry it forward.
If there's one thing I'd want to pass on to Lingnan students, it's this: don't wait for the "safe" moment to make a bold move — joining Ocean Park during tourism's toughest period felt risky at the time, but it turned out to be the most rewarding chapter of my career. Beyond that, invest in the things that don't show up on a résumé: build connections across industries through networking, take a moment before every meeting to understand what your counterparts are working on, and approach hard problems with a positive, logical mindset rather than the perfect answer. Marketing theory will only take you so far — what really sets you apart is applying critical thinking to real situations and being able to walk someone through how you got there. |
