Co-organized by the Centre for Cultural Research and Development (CCRD) and Office of the Core Curriculum (OCC), the activity aims to raise participants’ awareness on the sustainability of our city and the nearby communities. They will learn to farm organic and gourmet food by unleashing the possibility of city waste. They will also learn how this would enhance circularity of the city and our well-being. They are expected to recognize the importance of living a sustainable urban life.
 

Participants will first be guided to walk around Lam Tei. The guide will tell interesting stories about the community and local agriculture, before leading them to the local mushroom farm, Urban Mushroom. At the farm, they will find out how city waste can be upcycled to grow organic and gourmet mushroom. They will also experience farm to table and learn to make veggie bouquets.

Urban Mushroom was founded in the Summer of 2018. The venture started from the wish to create a more sustainable home. By targeting the waste problem in our urban environment, the founder started to look for a potential hack on it. The experiment started in the Autumn of 2017, form research, construction, the examination of theory and test of practices. The continuous hard work and attempts incubated the beginning of Urban Mushroom. The Urban Mushroom Company works with restaurants, cafes in the food and beverage industry to reduce the amount of spent coffee grounds going into our landfills. At the same time, Urban Mushroom aims to scale the business and allow their customers to know the ongoing impact they have made to the environment.
