Data Visualization Workshop: Empowering Students with the Latest Data Analysis Skills

Recognizing the importance of data visualization skills, the MScMIB Programme organized a Qlik Sense data visualization workshop on 23-24 May, 2024. The MSceBSCM students participated in this workshop, which provided them with hands-on experience in using Qlik Sense. Qlik Sense is a widely used data analysis tool that leverages AI to help businesses effectively understand and utilize their data.

Data visualization has become an increasingly essential skill in the era of digital business transformation. By using visual elements like charts and maps, raw data can be transformed into easily accessible graphics. This enables the discovery of trends, outliers, patterns, and relationships between different data points. In the business domain, data visualization can enable interactive data association analysis and multidimensional drilldown, making the market insights and business implications behind the data more intuitive and understandable. This significantly improves the accuracy and efficiency of business decision-making, providing a significant edge in growth and development.

The workshop was presented by Vantis Consulting Groups, a leading consulting firm dedicated to providing enterprise management solutions and training, with clients such as Lenovo, Dell, and the University of Hong Kong. The experienced Vantis Consulting Group provided the students with lectures and hands-on training, selecting the new-generation data visualization tool "Qlik Sense" as the training platform.

The workshop's training content was rich and practical, combining theoretical lectures, case study demonstrations, and exercises. The topics covered included data analysis case sharing, Internet of Things data applications in supply chain management, introduction to data connectors, common simple function introductions, script introduction and demonstration, machine learning and forecasting, and in-depth exploration of Automated Machine Learning.

The workshop helped students gain a deeper understanding of big data, data analysis skills, and their applications in different fields, as well as taught them how to design, create, and interpret visualized data. With the generous support of Vantis Consulting Groups and the enthusiastic participation of the students, the workshop was successfully conducted. The MSceBSCM Programme plans to participate in similar events in the future to help students master their practical data analysis and visualization skills, equipping them with the essential tools for success in the digital business landscape.
