Guest Seminar: Data & AI: A Transformative Journey

On October 31, 2024, the eBSCM Programme at Lingnan University had the privilege of hosting Dr. Aroop Lalla, Director of the KPMG Advisory Team, for an enlightening seminar titled "Data & AI: A Transformative Journey." Dr. Lalla's presentation delved into the crucial role of data and artificial intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing our thought processes and business practices.

Dr. Lalla began by addressing the importance of Data Integrity and Human Error, emphasizing that while data itself is inherently reliable, human errors can lead to significant misinterpretations. He explained the transformative journey from raw data to AI, which involves converting data into information, knowledge, and ultimately wisdom. This journey highlights the evolution from simple data analysis to sophisticated decision science.

The seminar also covered Quality and Management of Data. Dr. Lalla discussed various facets of data quality, including quantitative and qualitative analysis, bias, trust, feedback, control, and management. He explored the integration of automation, data aggregation, diagnostic analysis, deep learning, and predictive analytics, all of which enhance cognitive decision-making and actions.

In the segment on AI in Business, Dr. Lalla provided a comprehensive framework for integrating AI into business processes. His roadmap included managing structured and unstructured data, cloud networks, predictive analytics, blockchain, big data, digitization, IoT, RPA, cognitive intelligence, and neural networks. He also presented a step-by-step guide for AI implementation, from identifying data estates to algorithm training, validation, and live monitoring.
