Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing all aspects of modern life, raising pressing theoretical and ethical issues. As AI's influence continues to grow, knowledge of these new technologies and their ethical and social impacts becomes crucial. The Master of Arts in Artificial Intelligence and the Future (MAAIF) at Lingnan University offers a unique, comprehensive approach to this emerging field.
What Will I Study?
Unlike traditional IT- and engineering-centric programmes, the MAAIF combines technical and philosophical topics, providing a humanities-based perspective on AI. Our students gain a fundamental understanding of AI and delve into the ethical and social issues arising from AI technologies through a rigorous interdisciplinary programme combining philosophy, computer science, logic, psychology, and literature. Students will acquire a practically applicable set of analytical tools and will learn to think clearly and critically about AI systems. In our wide-ranging curriculum, students will consider the ramifications of AI in a variety of domains, including science, law, economics, public policy, healthcare, and business and finance.
Who is it for?
The broad, interdisciplinary foundation provided by the MAAIF is suitable for anyone, whether you’re a new graduate looking for a future-proof career to an accomplished professional looking to maintain your competitive edge. No specific background in AI is necessary – we provide you with the training necessary to understand cutting-edge AI systems, reason critically about them, and make expert decisions in the AI-driven future.
What can I do with MAAIF?
Designed to align with the Level-6 parameters of Hong Kong Qualification Framework, MAAIF graduates will be well-positioned for careers that blend AI technology with artistic and humanistic pursuits, such as AI Ethicist or Analyst, AI Developer or Art Creator, Educator, and AI Consultant or Strategist. With industries increasingly integrating ethical considerations into their AI strategies, our graduates will find ample opportunities in tech, healthcare, finance, and government sectors, both in Hong Kong and abroad.
The Department of Philosophy at Lingnan University is one of the leading anglophone philosophy departments in East Asia and home to the Hong Kong Catastrophic Risk Centre.
