Three Distinguished Scholars Appointed to LUIAS

LUIAS is pleased to announce the addition of three eminent scholars to its community: Prof Guillermo Sapiro as Lingnan Fellow, alongside Prof Bingchun Meng and Prof M. Jae Moon, who join as Senior Lingnan Scholars.

Prof Guillermo Sapiro
Prof Sapiro is the Augustine Family Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Princeton University and serves as a Distinguished Engineer at Apple, Inc. His expertise lies in computer vision and machine learning, with an impressive portfolio of over 550 publications and a seminal book published by Cambridge University Press in 2001. His outstanding contributions have been recognised through prestigious honours such as the PECASE award and multiple Test-of-Time accolades at ICCV and ICML. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2018 and the National Academy of Engineering in 2022, and is a Fellow of both IEEE and SIAM.

Prof Bingchun Meng
Prof Meng is a Professor in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She also leads the LSE PhD Academy as Director and co-directs the LSE-Fudan Global Public Policy Research Centre. Her research focuses on gender and media, the political economy of media industries, and communication governance. She has an extensive publication record, including her 2018 book, The Politics of Chinese Media: Consensus and Contestation, published by Palgrave.

Prof M. Jae Moon
Prof Moon is the Underwood Distinguished Professor of Public Policy and Management at Yonsei University and directs the Institute for Future Government Research there. He plays a pivotal role in public administration in South Korea, co-chairing the National Public Data Strategy Committee and chairing the Planning and Evaluation Committee of the National Research Council of Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences. An internationally recognised expert, he is a Fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Public Administration and has been honoured with the Order of Service Merit (Red Stripe) by the South Korean government for his work advancing public sector innovation.

Since its inception in March 2024, LUIAS has proudly welcomed over 20 leading scholars to its community. We eagerly anticipate the valuable insights and scholarly excellence these new appointees will bring, enriching our institute and advancing impactful research and mentorship across the academic community in the years ahead.
