Aims and Learning Outcomes

Aims

The programme aims to develop graduates who possess strong technical foundations, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to apply AI and design principles in real-world contexts. It seeks to cultivate interdisciplinary collaboration, ethical awareness, and global perspectives, ensuring students are equipped for lifelong learning and professional success. The aims of the programme are listed as follows:

  • Build strong foundations in computing, data science, and design principles.

  • Apply AI methods to design problems and product/service innovation.

  • Demonstrate human‑centred design, creative problem‑solving, and prototyping skills.

  • Integrate data engineering, modelling, and systems thinking to build deployable solutions.

  • Communicate effectively and collaborate in interdisciplinary settings.

  • Uphold ethical, legal, and sustainable practices in AI and design.

  • Exhibit professional readiness, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning.

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

Upon completion of the programme, students will achieve Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs):

  • Disciplinary Knowledge: Demonstrate in-depth specialised knowledge of AI, data science, and design.

  • Technical Proficiency: Interpret, use and evaluate numerical and graphical data ; develop effective and efficient programs using comprehensive computer skills.

  • Human‑Centred Design: Apply design thinking, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), User Experience (UX), and studio methods to create justified innovative solutions.

  • Applied AI Modelling: Build, train, evaluate, and integrate machine learning/deep learning models using critical analysis and evidence-based reasoning.

  • Creative Prototyping: Apply specialised design and technical skills to develop interactive prototypes in support of established practices ; exercise design judgement in presenting concepts.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Communicate ideas effectively in group discussions using advanced ICT tools ; work responsibly in diverse teams under appropriate monitoring, for determining and achieving personal and/or group outcomes.

  • Ethics & Governance: Critically evaluate ethical, legal, and governance issues in AI ; formulate evidence-based responses to risks and analyse the local and global impact of computing.

  • Professional Development: Demonstrate recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in continuing professional development.
