Mission

The LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science advances data science through four core functions:

(1) Providing high-quality education in data science and related technologies.

(2) Supporting researchers with advanced resources and infrastructure.

(3) Conducting focused research in key areas of data science.

(4) Building strategic partnerships within and beyond academia.

The Institute promotes collaboration among academics, government bodies, industry, professional organisations and the wider community. Through interdisciplinary research and knowledge transfer, it seeks to develop innovative, data-driven solutions to contemporary challenges.

Its research and education activities draw on artificial intelligence, data mining, machine learning, deep learning, big data analytics and other emerging methodologies. The Institute also supports the dissemination of research findings, technologies and professional knowledge to students, practitioners, researchers and the wider public.

Through these activities, the Institute aims to strengthen data science capacity, create opportunities for collaboration and contribute to the development of Hong Kong and the wider community.
