Organized by the Lingnan University STEAM Education and Research Centre, in collaboration with Fu Tai Elderly Home and the Hong Kong Old Age Nursing Association Limited, the “STEAM 'Smart Elderly' Activity at Elderly Home (cum staff training)” was successfully held on December 19, 2023.

Approaching Christmas, Lingnan University STEAM Education and Research Centre staff members visited Fu Tai Elderly Home. On that day, they conducted a class for the elderly students, focusing on holiday festivities and traditional entertainment.
This class was divided into three parts. Firstly, there was a discussion with the elderly students about the traditional customs of upcoming holidays such as Christmas and the Winter Solstice. While comparing Eastern and Western cultures, the elderly participants shared their rich insights, sparking various discussions.
In the second part of the class, they held a prize-winning Q&A to impart much knowledge related to the holidays. The elderly students were delighted upon receiving the prizes. Many of them were eager for more, prompting the teacher to continue engaging them through a 'Guess the Riddles' activity. Throughout the process, the elderly participants actively participated.

The class concluded with engaging games. The teacher explained traditional entertainment in ancient China and allowed the elderly students to experience it. This hands-on approach aimed to make learning enjoyable. In the future, The Lingnan University STEAM Education and Research Centre will continue to collaborate closely with Fu Tai Elderly Home and the Hong Kong Old Age Nursing Association Limited, bringing more inspiring classes to the elderly learners.

With the approaching Winter Solstice and Christmas, special thanks to Professor HO Lok-sang, STEAM Education and Research Centre, Lingnan University, and Dr. Philip Wong, Deputy Director of STEAM Education and Research Centre, Lingnan University, for sponsoring the prizes for the gaming session on the event day. We hope to bring warmth to the elderly during this winter season.
