Lingnan University welcomes 2,400 new postgraduates with ‘Leading Impact through Unyielding Vision’ campaign

Lingnan University (Lingnan) held its Orientation Day for over 2,400 new postgraduate students including taught postgraduate/doctoral degree and MPhil/PhD students today (29 August). Freshmen of the 2023-2024 academic year come from countries and regions all around the world including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Ghana, Mexico, Bangladesh, South Korea, the Philippines, Myanmar, and the Netherlands, who are joining Lingnan’s research and postgraduate studies community to commence their academic lives.

 

The Orientation Day was organised under the theme “Leading Impact through Unyielding Vision”, and in his welcome speech, Prof S. Joe Qin, President Designate and Acting President of Lingnan, welcomed all new postgraduate students to the Lingnan family as they embark on their educational journey. “At Lingnan, we do not rest on our laurels. To advance liberal arts education for whole-person development, both the arts and sciences will be enhanced with human-centric themes. We strive to equip our students with critical thinking skills and competitiveness for the workforce. We must also enhance the connection with the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and globally. In fact, we are the closest university to Shenzhen. We are poised to lead the development of higher education in the Northern Metropolis, leveraging our proximity to it,” he said.

 

Prof Mok Ka-ho, the Vice President of Lingnan and Dean of School of Graduate Studies, emphasized the significance of collaboration and encouraged students to seek opportunities for partnerships with international peers to elevate research impact.

 

There were a number of entertainment and freshmen received useful information from academic departments, programme offices, the School of Graduate Studies, and other supporting units such as the Teaching and Learning Centre, the Library, and the Office of Student Affairs on how to make the most of their graduate studies and campus life. They were also encouraged to stay tuned for updated events and activities, including regional and international research projects organised by the School of Graduate Studies.
