School of Graduate Studies successfully hosts the 2023 summer school in Hong Kong

With the COVID-19 pandemic virtually behind us, the School of Graduate Studies and its partner, Hertford College of the University of Oxford, resumed the annual summer school after three years break. 

 

The first session of the 2023 summer school was held on 19-23 June 2023 on the campus of Lingnan University. In his opening remarks to the Hong Kong session, Prof. Ka Ho Mok, Vice President of Lingnan University, thanked all participants and speakers for joining the event. He encouraged all participants to keep the spirit of collaboration and the path of life of long learning.

 

The students were taken through several seminars and workshops on research methods, academic writing, effective communication, and public speaking led by renowned and expected scholars. The speakers included Prof Andrea Abbas (University of Bath, the United Kingdom), Prof. Ngai Pun (Lingnan University, Hong Kong, SAR), Prof. Lianjiang Li (Lingnan University, Hong Kong, SAR), Prof. Richard Ronald (University of Amsterdam, Netherlands), Prof. Dong Zhang (The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong SAR), Prof. David Gordon (University of Bristol, the United Kingdom). The session was well-attended with 70 students, including taught and research postgraduate students from Lingnan University, Jilin University and Shenzhen University.

 

At the end of the Hong Kong session, twenty-four students participated in the second session at Oxford University Session, where they will spend two weeks, from 26 June 2023 to 9 July 2023. They will receive further methodological lessons and presentation skills and also have the opportunity to join numerous social activities. The summer school is expected to be held again in the summer of 2024.
