The School of Graduate Studies hosted the Symposium on Internationalisation and Quality Management in Higher Education 2024

On 22 March 2024, Lingnan University’s School of Graduate Studies and Institute of Policy Studies successfully convened an influential symposium on the theme of"Internationalization of Higher Education and Quality Management" in collaboration with the National Chengchi University, Taiwan. The conference provided a global platform for scholars to discuss emerging trends in higher education internationalization and strategies to enhance its quality. Esteemed experts and scholars from various countries and regions, totaling approximately 150 attendees, participated either in person or online. Discussions ranged from quality management in higher education to cross-border research collaboration and the promotion of international faculty and student mobility.

In the welcoming address, Prof. MOK Ka-ho, Vice-President of Lingnan University extended his appreciation for the joint efforts and support from various academic institutions, underscoring Lingnan University's commitment to interdisciplinary research and the vital role of collaboration in academia. Prof. HU Yueh-Luen, the Associate Dean of the College of Education, National Chengchi University emphasized the increasing importance of international quality management in higher education and expressed a commitment to contribute to its development through collaboration among universities.

The symposium's keynote addresses were delivered by Professor Futao Huang of Hiroshima University and Dr. Miguel Antonio Lim from the University of Manchester. Prof. Huang's presentation, titled"Prospects and Challenges: The Evolving Landscape of Higher Education Internationalisation in Asia," shed light on the dynamic progression of Asia's higher education system, marked by increased cross-border academic mobility and transnational education activities. He stressed the need for Asian governments and academics to persist in strengthening collaborations to further enhance educational capacity and internationalisation.

Dr. Lim's discourse delved into the ever-changing nature of higher education internationalisation, addressing the influences of socio-cultural dynamics, digital technology, and ideological frameworks. He provided an in-depth analysis of how Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are being integrated into higher education policies, offering fresh perspectives to the discourse.

 

The symposium concluded with Prof. OLDAC Yusuf Ikbal expressing his gratitude to all participants for their invaluable contributions and the role the event played in promoting academic discourses and bolstering Lingnan University's international profile.
