In the twenty-first century, higher education finds itself at the crossroads of profound transformations. Technological advancements, rising emphasis on skills-based learning, and demands of a knowledge-driven workforce are reshaping the delivery and objectives of post-secondary education. Shifting of economic priorities and social paradigms are compelling universities to re-examine long-held assumptions about their structures, pedagogies and functions within society. It is important to explore the complex interplay between ongoing transformations in higher education systems and evolving expectations from the worlds of work, research and civic participation.

Given the significant transformation in higher education and society, the Lingnan University in Hong Kong, University of Stavanger in Norway, Tampere University in Finland will co-organise this research symposium and aim to explore the multidimensional transformations taking place across higher education systems and their implications for students, institutions and society. Through cross-disciplinary perspectives, we aim to unpack the opportunities and challenges faced by universities in equipping students as informed global citizens and change-makers for our shared future.
