Alumni Cultural Tour - Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance
06/10/2026
The “Alumni Cultural Tour - Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance” was successfully held on 3 October. Around 30 alumni, together with their family and friends, visited Tai Hang to discover the century‑old Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance — a traditional custom listed as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Participants first visited the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Heritage Centre to understand the history of this Grade III historic building. The docent narrated the century‑long history of the building’s construction, destruction during wartime, reconstruction, and revitalisation, and showcased precious relics preserved on site, while also introducing the origins, cultural significance, crafting process and heritage of the Fire Dragon Dance tradition. Participants had the opportunity to experience traditional craftsmanship firsthand by creating their very own mini straw‑woven dragonheads under the instructor’s guidance.
Participants also took a guided walking tour around the Tai Hang neighbourhood to learn about the district’s historical evolution and key landmarks, and soak in its rich heritage and cultural charm. Stops included the Tai Hang Residents’ Welfare Association (organiser of the Fire Dragon Dance), Wun Sha Street (the site of the original nullah in Tai Hang), Fire Dragon Path, the Declared Monument Lin Fa Kung Temple, and Ormsby Street (starting point of the Fire Dragon Dance).
