The LingnanSpeaks 2026 showcases English public speaking skills of Lingnan students

On Saturday 14th February 2026, the Centre for English and Additional Languages of Lingnan University held its second annual LingnanSpeaks English Speech Competition. The two-round grand final was observed by staff members, students and their friends, and intended to find three students to represent the University at the Hong Kong regional final of the China Daily 21st Century Cup. 

Ten student competitors, who were selected through auditions two weeks prior to the event, were invited to the stage one-by-one to present their prepared speech on the topic “The Chinese Dream in a Global Context” and be judged by two academic staff from CEAL and one student who participated in the contest last year.
 

After the prepared speech round, the top five students were sent through to the improvised speech round, where their scores were reset and they battled it out for the final prizes. After delivering her impromptu speech on the topic “it is the responsibility of the family to take care of the elderly,” fourth year Economics major Seemi NISAR was crowned the winner, with first year Cultural Studies major Arina MUSSINA and first year English major HUONG Thu Trang coming second and third, respectively.
