Ibrahim Murat Kara is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Government and International Affairs at Lingnan University, where he also earned his PhD. He holds a master's degree in China Studies from the University of Liverpool (via the Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University program) and a master's degree in Economics from Boğaziçi University. He completed his bachelor's degree in Economics, along with a dual degree in International Relations, at Istanbul University. His research focuses on the intersection of infrastructure development, political economy, and political philosophy, with a particular interest in prestige-seeking behavior in global politics.

A Turkish native, Kara reads English, Arabic, and Persian and has reading knowledge of Ottoman Turkish script dating from 1400 onward. He speaks English and Persian, as well as Arabic and Chinese at an intermediate level. His work has appeared in Studies in Political Economy / Recherches en économie politique and The Hague Journal of Diplomacy.
