Professor Xiaobo LU

Professor Lu Xiaobo is a Senior Professor of Liberal Arts and Doctoral Supervisor at Tsinghua University. He currently serves as Director of the Tsinghua University Art Museum, Deputy Chair of the Academic Committee of Tsinghua University, and Chief Professor of Art and Design at Tsinghua University. He previously served as Dean of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University; Dean of the Tsinghua–Milan Institute of Design and Innovation; and Vice President of the China Artists Association. He also holds key academic positions including Convenor of the Design Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and Chair of the Teaching Steering Committee for Design Majors under the Ministry of Education.

As a leading figure in contemporary Chinese design education and discipline development, Professor Lu has dedicated his career to teaching, research, and creative innovation in industrial design, information art design, interaction design, and the integration of art, science, and technology. He founded the Department of Information Art & Design at Tsinghua University and has played a pioneering role in transforming design education from traditional industrial design toward digital media, intelligent interaction, and interdisciplinary innovation, cultivating new models of creative talent for the future.

His research and practice span digital media, cultural heritage innovation, artificial intelligence and interaction design, and new media art. His contributions have had a significant impact on design education reform, academic development, and international exchange in China.

As an artist, Professor Lu has long pursued ink painting as a medium of creative exploration. Centered around the imagery of red-crowned cranes, natural life, and Eastern philosophy, his artistic practice seeks new forms of expression between the spirit of traditional ink painting and contemporary technological contexts. His works have been exhibited internationally in Germany, Japan, Korea, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, and beyond.

Throughout his career, Professor Lu has continued to bridge education, design research, and artistic creation, promoting deeper integration and innovation among design, technology, culture, and humanistic values.
