Prof. MOREL Jean-Michel Henri Olivier

Professor Jean‑Michel Henri Olivier Morel is currently Chair Professor of the Division of Industrial Data Science in the School of Data Science at Lingnan University. Prior to joining Lingnan University, he started his career as a teaching assistant in mathematics at the University of Marseille and obtained his doctorate at Sorbonne University in 1985. He then held chair professor positions in applied mathematics at Paris Sciences & Lettres University, Paris‑Saclay University, and City University of Hong Kong.

Trained as a pure mathematician, Professor Morel developed an early interest in computer vision and artificial intelligence, specialising in the mathematical formalisation of visual perception. This focus led him to conceive influential image processing and image analysis algorithms, many of which have been implemented in real-world imaging systems, including earth observation satellites, medical imaging devices, industrial cameras, and mobile phones.
