Master of Cultural Studies 文化研究碩士
The programme consists of a core module and a set of elective courses. Students must complete 4 courses (12 credits) in the core module. In addition to this basic requirement, they can take any 4 courses[1] or 5 courses[2] (12 credits) chosen from a set of elective courses. To graduate, students must complete a total of 24 credits (8 or 9 courses, with 4 core and 4[1] or 5[2] elective). The teaching pattern is normally a 3-hour seminar per week for each course (Except for CUS513, CUS514 and CUS515). The structure of the curriculum is as follows:

Area of Concentration 專修範圍
The concentration in Digital and Cultural Innovation (數字與文化創新) (DCI) under the MCS was implemented from the academic year 2023-24 to 2025-26. The Master of Cultural Studies (Digital and Cultural Innovation) (hereafter, the “MCS(DCI)”) draws on the expertise of key stakeholders experienced in addressing key issues in digital and cultural innovation for a creative contemporary society. Gaining knowledge on these topics will equip students to communicate effectively and tackle the changing social and business landscape.

The concentration in Digital Media and Culture (數字媒體與文化) (DMC) under the MCS will be implemented from the academic year of 2026-27 intake. The Master of Cultural Studies (Digital Media and Culture) (hereafter, the “MCS(DMC)”) is an advanced study programme that offers a unique blend of traditional communication and media studies with Generative AI and Cultural Studies. This concentration equips students with the critical thinking skills essential for navigating the rapidly evolving digital landscape and addressing culture-related issues.
The curriculum is designed to enhance students’ understanding of new media, focusing on both AI and cultural dynamics. This prepares them to thrive as multidisciplinary professionals in an increasingly complex future. It emphasizes emerging technologies in new media, such as AI, XR (including VR, AR, and MR), and social media, while also highlighting their significance for culture in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and beyond.

MCS
The MCS programme is designed to enable students:
1. to acquire up-to-date theoretical and practical essentials, as well as their linkages, in cultural studies;
2. to broaden their intellectual horizon across the boundaries of academic and professional disciplines;
3. to form critical perspectives for understanding the complex processes of contemporary cultural production;
4. to be equipped with the necessary skills to analyze the constraints and potentials of their respective professional practices in the rapidly changing contemporary context; and
5. to apply cultural studies in practicing critical pedagogy in various fields.
Liberal arts education at Lingnan University aims to instill a sense of civic duty in our students and to cultivate skills, competences and sensibilities that enable graduates to pursue their goals in a rapidly changing social, cultural and economic environment. The intended learning outcomes of the programme are in alignment with the University’s mission of enabling “students to think, judge, care and ultimately act responsibly in the changing circumstances of Hong Kong, the region and the world.” Students, after the completion of this programme, will be able to
demonstrate a refinement of the professional and cultural resources they already have to better analyze and evaluate the complex processes of cultural work and production today, and

The MCS PCC will be set up under the Cultural Studies Department to provide a mechanism whereby the University carries out its responsibility to assure the satisfactory operation of the programme. The composition of the MCS PCC is as follows:
