MGSL3001 Service Leadership Practicum

• To prepare students to become future community leaders by nurturing their service leadership skills, commitment to personal and social responsibility, and insight into real-world challenges.

• To provide a practical platform for students to demonstrate their potential for career advancement in a service-oriented economy.

• To provide on-the-job coaching and mentoring for students, along with opportunities to diagnose and meet service needs through first-hand practical experiences.

• To enable synergy between academic and local knowledge.

• To foster service innovation for the benefit of the community.

• All undergraduate students, and priority will be given to those who have participated in the credit-bearing Service-Learning Project(s) organized by the Office of Service-Learning (OSL) or outstanding final-year students with credits to enroll in a summer course.

• Committed and passionate about serving in governmental/ non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and social enterprises.

Class Arrangement (Students must reserve time to attend all required classes and presentations)

MGSL3001 is a 3-credit course with Service-Learning elements. After completing all the required S-L tasks, it can be used to fulfill the Service-Learning Graduation Requirement.

Normal working hours (Mon-Fri, 09:00-17:30*)

*The working hours will be changed based on the partner organizations' decisions. Some organizations and activities will be organized outside of normal working hours and on weekends. 

Allowance

HK$8,000 (The OSL will nominate students with satisfactory performance to receive the allowance) 

Reference Letter 

OSL will issue an official reference letter for the students with satisfactory performance

To better prepare our students for the interview organized by the agency partners, the students will be invited to join the online internal interview and briefing session on 20 April (Mon) at 19:30.

*OSL is now inviting agency partners to provide Service-Learning opportunities to Lingnan students. More opportunities will be announced after the confirmation with new partner organizations. The course instructor will make the final decision on the course quota.

3. Apply and practice service leadership qualities and employability skills

4. Increased self-confidence through the identification of personal strengths, and awareness of directions for further self-improvement

5. Receive a stipend of HKD$8,000, an official reference letter, 3 credits through a free elective course (MGSL3001)

3. To better prepare our students for the interview organized by the agency partners, the students will be invited to join the online internal interview and briefing session on 20 April (Mon) at 19:30. A Zoom link will be sent out through the enrollment confirmation email.

4. Interview sessions with the agency partners will be scheduled in May. If more interview sessions are available for selection, we will send an invitation email to participants in advance. 

5. Please note that priority will be given to students with prior Service-Learning experience and outstanding final-year students with credits to enroll in a summer course.
