The Lingnan-Genoa-Kobe Value Theory Workshop on 15 - 17 Apr 2025 (Tuesday to Thursday)

Philosophers study a range of questions concerning values: What makes actions morally right or wrong? Are there objective artistic or aesthetic values, or is beauty ‘in the eye of the beholder’? What makes for a valuable life? Are moral values objective, or do they vary according to time, place, and culture? How do emerging technologies such as AI shape our values? How do we weigh the interests of potential future people vs. those of people alive today? These and other such questions belong to value theory, one of the core areas of contemporary philosophy. In this workshop, leading experts from around the world will engage in cutting edge discussion of some of the most important issues in value theory.
