LUIAS Honorary Director Prof Samuel C.C. Ting Receives the 2025 Basic Science Lifetime Award

Lingnan University Institute for Advanced Study (LUIAS) is pleased to share that Prof Samuel C.C. Ting, our Honorary Director, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Basic Science Lifetime Award (BSLA) in Physics at the 2025 International Congress of Basic Science (ICBS 2025) in July. Prof Ting was recognised “for his transformative discovery of the J/ψ meson, groundbreaking contributions to space-based research, and visionary leadership in global collaborations in experimental physics.”

Prof Ting is a pioneering physicist and Nobel laureate whose groundbreaking discoveries have profoundly advanced our understanding of the fundamental building blocks of the universe. He holds membership in prestigious scientific academies such as the US National Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and many others. He is currently the Thomas Dudley Cabot Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Established in 2023, the BSLA honours extraordinary scientists whose work in basic science have been both outstanding and innovative and have, over the course of the past 30 years or more, brought about fundamental change in his or her discipline.
