Two Esteemed Scholars Appointed as LUIAS Lingnan Fellows

Lingnan University Institute for Advanced Study (LUIAS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Lorenz T. Biegler and Professor Shige Peng as Lingnan Fellows. Their exceptional expertise and pioneering research will further advance LUIAS’s mission to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and academic excellence. 

Prof Lorenz T. Biegler, Covestro University Professor of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, specialises in computer-aided process engineering, flowsheet optimisation, nonlinear process control and real-time optimisation. He has published over 600 articles, authored 2 textbooks, and received major awards from AIChE, IFAC, SIAM, and INFORMS. Prof Biegler is a Fellow of several scientific societies and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. 

Prof Shige Peng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chair Professor at Shandong University, is renowned for his pioneering work in stochastic analysis and financial mathematics, notably co-founding the theory of Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (BSDE) and developing nonlinear expectation theory. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards in mathematics and has delivered plenary lectures at major international congresses.
