Professor Zidong XU

Professor Zidong Xu received his Ph.D. in Contemporary Chinese Literature from the University of Hong Kong in 1998. He also holds an M.A. in Chinese Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles, obtained in 1993, and another M.A. in Modern Chinese Literature from East China Normal University, completed in 1982.

Professor Xu is currently Zijiang Distinguished Visiting Professor at East China Normal University and Honorary Professor at the School of Chinese, University of Hong Kong (2020 to 2026). Previously, he served as Chair of the Department of Chinese at Lingnan University (2008-2014), where he held a professorship from 2006 to 2020.

His scholarly contributions include two signature monographs: Re-reading 20th-Century Chinese Fiction (2021) and A Close Reading on Eileen Chang (2020). The forthcoming ten-volume Anthology of Xu Zidong (2025) will feature seminal essays including "A New Perspective on Yu Dafu" and "Rereading Lu Xun." His scholarly articles have been featured in various prestigious journals, highlighting his extensive contributions to the field of Chinese literature.

Professor Xu's achievements have been recognized through prestigious honors such as the 2022 China Huacheng Literary Award for Criticism. His dedicated service on academic committees and literary award panels has solidified his standing as a leading authority in modern Chinese literary studies.
