潘翔教授

Prof. Xiang Pan received his B.Eng. degree in Computer Science from Shandong University, M.S. degree in Computer Science from Wuhan University in 2018, and Ph.D. degree in Information Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2022. He worked as a researcher at Tencent from October 2022 to February 2025. He joined Lingnan University in March 2025. His research focuses on machine learning and its applications in networking optimization, energy systems, and multimedia signal processing. He has published over 20 papers in international journals and conferences such as IEEE TIP, IEEE TCSVT, IEEE TPWRS, ICML, and ICLR. He also has multiple proposals adopted by the international AI-based image coding standard JPEG AI. He is currently hosting an NSFC Young Scientists Fund (Type C) project and an RGC Early Career Scheme (ECS) project. He has served as a session chair for IEEE ICME and SmartGridComm, co-chair of the 1st ICME Grand Challenge on Perceptual Image and Video Coding, and a member of the SIGEnergy Dissertation Award Committee.

He received the 2024 ACM SIGEnergy Doctoral Dissertation Winner Award (the sole winner selected annually from universities worldwide, recognizing an outstanding Ph.D. thesis in the field of energy systems and informatics), the Winner Award of the CVPR 2018 Challenge on Learned Image Compression, and the Runner-up Award of the CVPR 2024 Challenge on Video Quality Assessment of User-Generated Content.
