XU Chuoya (Graduated 2025)
Each course module taught me to view education from a global perspective, deepening my understanding of International Higher Education and convincing me that early English language learning and cross-cultural exposure are key to shaping tomorrow’s leaders. At the age of thirty, becoming fluent in English reopened the academic world to me, and Lingnan’s multicultural corridors provided daily proof that understanding wider worlds requires cross-cultural fluency, which is exactly what IHEM programme has given me this year.
Furthermore, the MIH605 Managing Talents and Finance in Education Institutions and MIH601 Internationalising Education: Institutional Strategy and Development provided me with the frameworks I needed for my career. IHEM’s international curriculum, whether in terms of both breadth and depth, now supports every step of my professional journey.
Last but not least, my professors’ patient questioning, timely encouragement and inspired feedback have revealed a better version of myself. This journey has taught me that we are always on the road to becoming our best selves. May we never stop growing!
Wang Jiaying (Graduated 2024)
Hello everyone, my name is Jiaying Wang, though you can also call me Angela. It is a true honour to share my journey of growth since graduating in 2024 with a Master's degree in International Higher Education and Management (IHEM).
Graduating with distinction, I developed a deep understanding of international higher education policy and governance through courses like "Internationalising Education: Institutional Strategy and Development," and gained valuable analytical skills from case studies in the course "Cases and Workshop for Management Issues in Education." These experiences have been instrumental in my current role as a research officer, where I focus on data analysis. In addition, I'm grateful for the opportunity the IHEM programme offered me to be an exchange student at Oxford's Hertford College, which broadened my perspective and allowed me to share my research on vocational students' motivations and career goals. Finally, I am sincerely grateful to my professors and the teaching team for their encouragement and support, especially during challenging times, which inspired me to take on new opportunities such as hosting the graduation ceremony and participating in academic conferences.
Currently, I continue my work as a research officer while also developing my own research proposal. I deeply understand how a genuine teacher-student connection can influence students. Looking ahead, I am eager to contribute to the field by helping more teachers discover joy and fulfilment in caring for others, while also realizing their own sense of purpose. My aspiration is to build bridges-between teachers and students, and across cultures-making care and compassion the warmest and most powerful foundation of higher education.
