Speaker Background
Against the backdrop of the deep integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the field of education, AI is gradually developing into the third core educational agent, alongside teachers and students. The traditional "teaching-determined learning" pedagogical model in higher education institutions, which is teacher-dominated and involves comprehensive control over students' learning objectives, content, and methods, not only fails to fully respect students' learning agency but also neglects the intrinsic value of AI as an agent in educational contexts. Consequently, the educational potential of AI remains difficult to effectively unleash. Although the individualised instruction model of " learning-determined teaching " fully safeguards students' agency, it still fails to grant AI its due status as a subject, and thus similarly fails to fully activate its educational efficacy. In contrast, the "learning-determined learning" model advocates for students to autonomously determine their learning objectives, content, and methods. In this new type of higher education teaching model, both teachers and AI can become excellent "Midwives." To fully unleash the educational potential of AI and promote the improvement of teaching quality in higher education institutions, teachers need to proactively break traditional teaching frameworks and actively construct and implement a new educational model featuring deep tripartite interaction among "Teacher-Student-AI".
