Lingnan University signs MoU with Alibaba Cloud to facilitate integration of digital technology and business education

To enhance innovation and technology education, Lingnan University and Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, announced a partnership and held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony at Lingnan University (6 May). The MoU was signed by Prof Leng Mingming, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Chair Professor of Operations and Risk Management of Lingnan University, and Mr Leo Liu, Vice President of International Business and General Manager of North APAC Region at Alibaba Cloud, marking a milestone in the collaboration between Lingnan University and Alibaba Cloud.

 
Under the MoU, Lingnan University and Alibaba Cloud will embark on extensive collaboration, working together to advance academic and technological frontiers. This includes developing cloud-based educational tools for programme, conducting joint research projects, and enhancing learning experience for students through the Alibaba Cloud Academic Empowerment Programme”. This initiative aims to provide Lingnan faculty and students with unprecedented opportunities for cutting-edge technology and real-world business insights, promoting deeper cooperation between industry, academia, and research. 

During his address at the signing ceremony, Prof. S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science of Lingnan University emphasised the significance of integrating advanced cloud technologies into educational curriculums to empower Lingnan University students to become leaders in the digital era. Prof Qin remarked, “Lingnan University is committed to evolve into a distinguished research-focused liberal arts university in the digital era. By fostering collaboration with reputed global companies and establishing close partnerships, we aim to further enhance Lingnan's social impact in research. I hope that the partnership with Alibaba Cloud will nurture more talents with international perspectives and innovative spirit for the betterment of society.”

 In his speech, Mr Leo Liu highlighted Alibaba Cloud's dedication to supporting educational institutions, and he stated, "Alibaba Cloud is committed to empowering universities with cloud computing resources and AI capabilities. Our collaboration with Lingnan University is a testament to our belief in the transformative power of technology in education."

Lingnan University, a venerable institution in Hong Kong's academic landscape, has a rich heritage that dates back to its founding in Guangzhou in 1888. Known in its earlier years as Lingnan Xuexiao and subsequently as Lingnan University, the institution flourished in the field of higher education until 1952. It was reborn in Hong Kong in 1967 and has since aspired to evolve into a distinguished research-focused liberal arts university for the digital age.
