Course Details

The Master of Arts in Artificial Intelligence and the Future (MAAIF) programme is composed of 30 credits, including 4 required courses (12 credits) and 4 programme electives (12 credits) and a capstone project (6 credits).

Mode of Study: Full-time and Part-time (for Hong Kong Residents only).

Programme Duration: Full-time: 1 year (Maximum 4 years);
Part-time: 2 years (Maximum 5 years).

Medium of Instruction: English Only.

Core Courses (4 courses, a total of 12 credits):

1) AIF501 Contemporary Issues in AI (3 credits)

2) AIF503 Ethics of AI (3 credits)

3) AIF504 Minds & Machines (3 credits)

4) AIF502 Introduction to Automated Reasoning (3 credits) * Or
AIF603 Sci-fi, AI, and Reality (3 credits) *

* During the first two weeks (add/drop period), students can enrol in both AIF502 and AIF603. After this period, they will choose one as their fourth core course.



Elective courses (any 4 courses, a total of 12 credits):

1) AIF601 Computability and Logic (3 credits)

2) AIF602 AI and Risk (3 credits)

3) AIF604 Policy, Business and Regulatory Issues in AI (3 credits)

4) AIF605 Applications of AI in Science and Medicine (3 credits)

5) AIF606 Anticipating AI Futures (3 credits)



Capstone project (6 credits):

1) AIF701 Capstone Project (6 credits)

To qualify for the award of the Master of Arts in Artificial Intelligence and the Future offered by Lingnan University (LU), students must, where applicable:

• Obtain 30 credits (8 courses and 1 capstone project);

• Achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.67 (equivalent to B-) or above; and

• Fulfil the University exit requirement on English language competency, if applicable; and fulfil all University/programme requirements.



A student who has fulfilled all the requirements for graduation shall be awarded a Master of Arts in Artificial Intelligence and the Future degree with one of the following classifications:

• Distinction for Minimum Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.50

• Pass for Minimum Cumulative G.P.A. of 2.67


Students will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Artificial Intelligence and the Future if they complete no less than five courses with a minimum CGPA of 2.67, and do not continue in the Programme. Acceptance of an intermediate award implies an intention not to complete the final award.
