In Hong Kong, there are streets and alleys contain not only the memories of our lives, but also the footprints of countless predecessors, and thus reflect the historical process and cultural fusion of Hong Kong. These fascinating streets and memories are so enchanting, while at the same time reminds people of the stunning change have changed in Hong Kong. In light of this, Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Pan Sutong Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Policy Research Institute of Lingnan University, and the China Economic Research Programme of Lingnan University have jointly promoted a research project that explores the economic history of Hong Kong and family businesses by investigating the streets of Hong Kong. To date, we have held the lecture series on "A Kaleidoscope Named Hollywood Road" in 2017, lecture Series on "Hillside Escalator into the Skies" in 2018, and lecture Series on “Bonham Strand: When East Meets West and South Meets North”. These lectures received overwhelmingly positive response with all seats packed. Relevant books published such as “Hollywood Road: Seeking the Graces of the Past”, “Hillside Escalator into the Skies” and “Bonham Street: Connecting all directions” are also popular.
This year, Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Pan Sutong Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Policy Research Institute of Lingnan University, and the China Economic Research Programme of Lingnan University, in association with Hong Kong Museum of History, once again have jointly organized the “Lecture series on the Golden Mile of Nathan Road” to cater for Hong Kong history lovers. The lecture will be held from December 5th, on 4 consecutive Saturdays, bringing together a number of scholars and history experts with 12 stories and community development lectures about legends in Nathan Road. By delivering these lectures, we seek to recapitulate our audience through a journey in the time tunnel of Hong Kong. The participation is free, and all colleagues, students and the public are welcome to join us.
